10.24.22 | Default visibility by Member Type
Administrators are now able to set default profile visibility by member type. Users have always had the ability to control their individual profile visibility, and we are now extending this setting to a member type level.
For information on how a member can change their individual settings, please refer to this article around managing privacy settings.
This feature will allow you to further segment your site for different use cases thus expanding your overall site flexibility. For example, you can set the visibility for a "parent" member type to be only other parents. In this scenario, parents would be able to connect with other parents, but not admitted students. This feature allows for better segmentation of individual member types for mixed hub uses.
Setting visibility by member type:
- Within the administration homepage, click "Site Settings", then navigate to the "Member Type Visibility" tab.
- Here you will see a list all member types available in your site.
- You can select the profile visibility for each member type.
Note: The default is "Anyone" for all member types.
There are 3 visibility options:
- Anyone: Any person in this private network can see a members profile and send a message or request a call
- Only certain people: Only the specific people with affiliations that match your settings can see a member profile and send a message or request a call.
- Only people I reach out to: Members are technically invisible in the system. Members can see other people and reach out to them, but their profile will not be shown unless they make first contact.
4. Click "Save Changes" after modifying any setting.
Important notes:
- An individual member can still change their individual visibility setting by editing their profile. If a member updates their settings, it will override the default setting and/or any modifications made by Administrators.
- If a member joins a community, members of that community will be able to view a member profile regardless of visibility setting. Please advise your members to be mindful of what communities they join if you've assigned a more restrictive visibility setting.
