10.01.2020 | Updated Community Visibility By Member Type
In this release, Wisr has created a new set of visibility settings for Communities in your Wisr Site. In addition to Public, Private, and Invite-Only, you can now limit visibility of Public and Private Communities by Member Type.
How is this an Improvement?
This means you can easily create custom streams of events, topics, and content for specific audiences without the challenge of managing individual invitations to an Invite-Only communities.
Creating a Communities with Limited Visibility
When creating a new community, you will see a new option under the Privacy settings. The default for a Public or Private Community is that any member can see the community (note: Private Communities still require approval before you can see the contents inside the community).
Clicking the 'Anyone' link will show a dropdown of your Site's Member Types, where you can change who is able to see the community.
In this example, only a Deposited Student will be able to view, join, and participate in this new community named 'Welcome Aboard! Summer Activities for New Students'.
Community Visibility Updates to Discussions and Events Tabs
This new setting also impacts the visibility of discussions and events contained inside the community. In the Discussions Tab, for example, Topics from all Public Communities are searchable. Using the example above, Topics contained in this community would only be visible on the Discussions Tab by a Deposited Student Member Type.
